05 MARZO 2009 - Aggiornamenti ricevuti da Michael Commonos di Earth Net Foundation che riguardano il cambiamento climatico, i problemi che porta e le iniziative intraprese da Green Net per preparare i contadini thailandesi al cambiamento del clima già in atto. Earth Net Foundation ci aggiorna anche su altre attività e iniziative di Green Net collegate alla coltivazione biologica e alla sicurezza alimentare, come gli orti urbani per la piccola produzione di ortaggi e spezie.
One of the hot issues that Green Net is taking on is Climate Change. There is already quite a bit of information showing that many organic practices also help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. It is clear that using local organic fertilizer such as the manure from one’s livestock, rice straw, coconut fibre, and other “wastes” uses much less energy then producing chemical fertilizer from fossil fuels and then using even more energy to ship it around the world and to a farm. There is also research showing significant benefits in carbon sequestration in the soil through organic farming (Rodale). Any organic farmer knows that good soil is alive and rich in organic matter. That same organic matter is mostly carbon. So it is no surprise that building soil organic matter is also sequestering carbon in the soil....
